BALL STATE: 4 Days and Counting

The Toledo Rockets look to improve to 3-2 on the 2009 season when they take on the defending MAC West Champions, Ball State, on Saturday afternoon in Muncie, Ind. What names do you need to know as the Rockets look to open Mid-American Conference action. Rocket Digest gives you 4 names to know.

The Toledo Rockets have to be considered the odds-on favorite against Ball State despite traveling on the road for their Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday in Muncie, Ind. What are the names that you need to know as you tune in to watch the Rockets improve to 3-2 on the season.

Four Names to Know

MiQuale Lewis - After rushing 700+ yards in his first two seasons at Ball State, Lewis, a 5-foot-6, 193-pound speedster from Fort Wayne, Ind., emerged in a big way as a junior in 2008. Along with quarterback Nate Davis, Lewis helped BSU finish in the national top 20 in total offense. No. 33 for the Cardinals topped 2,000 all-purpose yards on the year, a combination of 1,700+ on the ground and 300 through the air. It's been tough sledding for Lewis, though, to open 2009. Through four games, Lewis' average of 3.3 yards per carry is a full yard and a half before his previous career low. He's also only found the end zone twice after scoring 22 touchdowns in 2008.

Kelly Page - Stepping in for Nate Davis, who now plays on Sunday for the 49ers, it's fair to say that Kelly Page had some big shoes to fill. Page, though, has the talent to be a big-time player given the right situation. Out of Sunnyvale, Texas, Kelly was at one time committed to the Univeresity of Oregon to continue his football career. A late official visit to Ball State, however, quickly changed his mind. After sitting out as a freshman last season, Page has completed 58-of-120 for 509 yards and three scores. He's also added 100 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.

Robert Eddins - Over the past four weeks Robert Eddins has been one of the few bright spots on a much maligned Ball State defense. A native of Detroit, Mich., Eddins is tied for 30th in the NCAA with three sacks on the young season. As a team, Ball State has just five sacks. Eddins has also recorded eight tackles for a loss, forced three fumbles, notched one quarterback hurry and blocked one kick -- all in just the first four games of Ball State's season.

Brandon Crawford - If Eddins has been the most successful Cardinals lineman through the first four games of the season, all the extra attention coming Brandon Crawford's way may just be part of the reason. Crawford came into the 2009 season as the most heralded of the Cardinals lineman. Coming into the 2009 season, Crawford had tallied 9 sacks in the BSU uniform. Prior to the start of the season, Scout.com affiliate College Football News ranked Crawford as one of the Top 15 defensive players in the conference due to his game-changing ability. No. 90 must be accounted for on the edges.
