Hoops Teams Prepare for Season Openers

The Rocket men's basketball team and the Lady Rockets have both played their exhibition games and are ready to open their respective 2009-10 basketball seasons. The Lady Rockets open the season Friday night at Savage Arena, while the men open at home on Saturday evening.

Last night the Rockets men's basketball team played their lone exhibition game of the season. The Rockets fell to Division II Central (OH) State 56-49 at Savage Arena. The Rockets shot just 34.4% from the field and 19% from three-point range.

"Central State came in and played well tonight," UT head coach Gene Cross said during the post-game press conference. He added, "We looked like a very young team, and they were aggressive and played relaxed."

Mouhamed Lo led the way for the Rockets with 15 points, while Justin Anyijong added 11 points and 20 rebounds. Outside of those two, there was not a lot of production. Josh Freelove and Jake Barnett had the next highest point total with 5 points each.

The Rockets return to the court for the season opener Saturday evening for a 7pm game at Savage Arena against Eastern Illinois.

The Lady Rockets basketball team is preparing for their season opener Friday evening for a 7pm game at Savage Arena against Big Ten opponent Northwestern.
