Fluellen Sets Career Marks

Lockport, NY running back David Fluellen rushed for 1,638 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, allowing him to break several career records at Lockport High School. The 6-0, 204 pound running back is now thinking about his football future. Read on to find out more about this talented running back from Western New York.

David Fluellen (6-0, 204, 4.4) had a record year at Lockport High School in New York. David broke his older brother's school career rushing record with 4,274 yards on 646 carries (6.6 yards per rush). He also broke the school career records for rushing attempts (646), points (302), and touchdowns (50). His 1,638 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns this season were the 2nd most in a season in school history as well. As a junior in 2008, David piled up the 4th most rushing yards in school history with 1,354 yards. He averaged 8.5 yards per rush in 2008, while scoring 16 touchdowns.

These numbers all led to Fluellen being named Co-Player of the Year for Class AA North in the state of New York.

Despite all of this, his only Division I FBS offer was from Buffalo. Then about two months ago he got a call from Toledo. Toledo running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh was impressed with what he saw and was ready to give Fluellen an offer.

Fast forward to today, and David Fluellen called Toledo head coach Tim Beckman and gave him his commitment. "I like the program, they're a top MAC program, and they have been really interested in me," Fluellen told Rocket Digest in a phone interview earlier today.

David went on to talk about the coach that recruited him, Alex Golesh. "He's a really good guy. He's really serious about winning at Toledo and he really wanted me to go there."

Fluellen didn't keep his praise to Golesh, as he also commented about head coach Tim Beckman. "I talked to him (Coach Beckman) again today. Their both (Beckman and Golesh) from Oklahoma State and they want to win championships. I also like that they never once pressured me to commit."

David has not taken his official visit to Toledo yet, but plans to do so in January.

Fluellen has good size at 6-0 and 204 pounds, but he also has a lot of speed. In fact, he consistently runs a 4.4 forty yard dash. When asked about his best attributes that he will bring to Toledo, Fluellen spoke confidently. "My speed and explosiveness," he said.

David said that he has talked to both Tim Beckman and Alex Golesh about his future at Toledo, and they all agree that he can come in right away and make an impact as a freshman. And by the praise he has received by the recruiting sites, they agree. Rivals has Fluellen rated as a high 3 star recruit, and ranked as the #24 running back prospect in the country. Scout.com has him ranked as the #137 running back prospect in the country, however they have not edited his profile since the beginning of his senior year.
