Paige is a Rocket!

The Toledo Rockets received a major boost to their 2010 recruiting class today when three star cornerback Taikwon Paige signed a National Letter of Intent during the Midyear Transfer Signing Period. Paige, who originally signed with Auburn last year, will start classes at Toledo in January.

Taikwon Paige had offers from Auburn, Ball State, East Carolina, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, UAB, and Western Michigan last season after his sophomore year at Georgia Military College. He signed with Auburn, but in late August the NCAA ruled that he did not take a required class and the NCAA Clearinghouse would not clear him to play. He went back to GMC in the fall to take the required class. Schools such as Auburn and USC contacted him and East Carolina and UAB joined Toledo in offering him scholarships.

Paige took an official visit to Toledo a couple of weeks ago, and he knew that it was the place for him. "I'm a Rocket," Paige told Rocket Digest. Then earlier today Taikwon made it official when he signed a national letter of intent with the Rockets.

Paige lists one of his best strengths to be his man-to-man coverage skills. The 6-0,180 pound cornerback played football, basketball, and ran track in high school. He was First Team All State as a senior at Aiken High School, and a three year starter at both cornerback and wide receiver. He also returned kicks in high school. He played in the 2006 Shrine Bowl as one of the South Carolina representatives in the game pitting all stars from South and North Carolina against each other. He has 4.4 speed.

As a freshman at GMC he recorded 6 interceptions and over 40 tackles. He is also an excellent return man and returned three kicks for touchdowns his freshman season. He had just 20 tackles and no interceptions as a sophomore at GMC, but many teams were reluctant to throw the ball his way after the year he had as a freshman. He also did not return any kicks for touchdowns as a sophomore, and Paige says it was because opponents started kicking the ball away from him.

Paige is rated a three star prospect by, and he will have three years to play two at Toledo.

Paige's brother is also a very good football player. He is a cornerback for Louisiana Tech.
