UT's Midyear Transfers

Yesterday was the first day of the Midyear Transfer signing period for college football. The Toledo Rockets signed a couple of new recruits and have a few more that are coming in and enrolling at Toledo in January. Read on for more information about each of Toledo's midyear transfers.

Yesterday was an exciting day for the Toledo Rocket football staff. It was the first day of the Midyear Transfer signing period and the staff got some good news.

The highlight of the day came in the afternoon when three star prospect Taikwon Paige signed his NLI (National Letter of Intent) and sent it to Rocket coaches. "Yeah, I have signed it," Paige told Rocket Digest yesterday afternoon.

Paige (6-0, 180, 4.4) had several BCS offers last year and eventually signed with Auburn. However, he did not pass the NCAA clearinghouse and went back to Georgia Military College to finish a required class. Auburn and USC showed interest over the fall, and Toledo, UAB, and East Carolina offer him scholarships to start in January of 2010. After visiting Toledo two weekends ago, Paige knew it was the place for him.

Also signing a NLI with Toledo yesterday was linebacker prospect Charles Rancifer of Copiah-Lincoln CC in Wesson, MS.

Rancifer was an athletic QB in high school at Brookhaven High School in Brookhaven, MS. He threw for 1,466 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also running for 833 yards and 4 TD's on the ground as a senior in high school. He played safety at Copiah-Lincoln CC. He was recruited to Toledo as a linebacker, and will likely play the star position which is a linebacker/safety hybrid.

Robert Lisowski is a 6-4, 305 pound offensive lineman from Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, VA. He is originally from Union High School in Union, NJ and spent one year of post-graduate at FUMA. Lisowski signed his scholarship papers for Toledo yesterday afternoon and will start classes at Toledo on January 11th, same as Paige and Rancifer.

Lisowski had offers from Toledo, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, and FAU. He visited Toledo last weekend and committed after the visit.

"Coach Beckman is a great coach," Lisowski told Rocket Digest after his commitment to Toledo. "I feel like I can be a huge asset to the program. I loved the facilities, and I felt like it was meant to be. Good things are happening down the line at Toledo."

Joining Paige, Rancifer, and Lisowski at Toledo by enrolling in January classes are tight end Gerard Atkins and wide receiver Cordale Scott. Neither play qualified to sign a letter of intent, but have enrolled at Toledo.

Atkins is a 6-5, 250 pound tight end from Hollins High School in St Petersburg, FL. He originally signed with South Florida out of high school last year. However, USF signed more players than they could bring in on scholarship and Atkins was denied admission to the school. He sat out this fall, looking for a school to enroll in January. Toledo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, FAU, FIU, and Northern Illinois all offered him scholarships for January of 2010. Atkins visited Toledo two weeks ago and decided to enroll at Toledo.

Cordale Scott (6-3, 215, 4.4) was a four star recruit and rated the #37 wide receiver prospect in the country in the 2008 recruiting class. He signed with Illinois over offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and others. After two seasons at Illinois, Scott felt the need to be closer to his family, namely his child.

Illinois released him from his scholarship and he quickly created a short list of Akron, Bowling Green, and Toledo. He only visited Toledo, last weekend, and decided that UT is where he needed to be. He is enrolled in January classes at Toledo and is applying for immediate eligibility with the NCAA. If he is granted so, he will be able to play right away in 2010. If not, he will use his redshirt year in 2010 and then have two years of eligibility at Toledo, starting in 2011.

With the players enrolling in January and the other commitments in Toledo's 2010 recruiting class, there are only three or four more spots open in the Rocket recruiting class. Stay tuned to Rocket Digest over the next few weeks as we keep you updated with who might fill out Toledo's 2010 football recruiting class.
