McDowell Picks Toledo Hat

Cassius McDowell is one of four Florida student-athletes that are part of Toledo 2010 Football Recruiting Class. The 5-9, 170 pound athlete has speed to burn, and he ready to burn that speed as a Rocket. Read on for more information on Cassius McDowell.

Cassius McDowell is not your typical athlete. He's only 5-9 and 170 pounds, but he runs a 4.5 forty yard dash. That speed enabled him to rush for 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior. As a senior he only had 58 rushes, but he gained 508 yards and scored 7 touchdowns on those 58 touches, earning honorable mention all-county.

Despite playing running back through most of his high school career, McDowell is expected to play receiver at Toledo.

The Deerfield Beach High School running back also runs track. He was part of the school's state champion 4x100 relay team and he placed fifth in the state of Florida in the 100 meters as a junior.

McDowell had a lot of interest throughout his recruitment. During the course of his recruitment, he picked up offers from FAU, FIU, Florida A&M, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Toledo, UCONN, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. At his signing ceremony this morning, Cassius had three hats on the table.

"The ceremony went great," McDowell told Rocket Digest this evening when talking about his signing ceremony earlier in the day. "The hats that I had on the table were Wisconsin, FAU, and Toledo. I chose Toledo because it felt like home; except it's cold (laughing)." When asked if the people present for his ceremony were surprised when he picked up Toledo's hat over a local school and a Big Ten school, Cassius had this to say. "No, everyone already knew I think, but everyone was happy."

McDowell still has about four months of high school left before he will be on his way to Toledo for summer classes, but he is ready now. "The coaching staff are like my dads now. We are a family now. I can't wait to get up there."
