Breaking News: Gene Cross Resigns

There is breaking news on the University of Toledo men's basketball program. At 4:30pm today, the University of Toledo held a press conference.

Updated at 5:20pm - Breaking news out of the University of Toledo today on the men's basketball program. The University of Toledo held a press conference at 4:30pm today and announced that head men's basketball coach Gene Cross has resigned.

University of Toledo Director of Athletics, Michael O'Brien, announced the resignation and said that a search for a replacement will begin immediately. He also said that assistant coach Bob Sundvold will serve as acting head coach until a new coach is hired.

"We would like to thank Gene for his efforts on behalf of the men's basketball program, and wish him well in his future endeavors," O'Brien said during the press conference.

"I appreciate the opportunity to have been the head men's basketball coach here at UT," Gene Cross told the University of Toledo Media Relations Office. He added, " I enjoyed my time trying to change the lives of these young men. It is with mixed emotions that I have chosen to move on at this time to pursue other career opportunities."

Sources speaking on the condition of anonymity told Rocket Digest that Gene Cross was asked to resign and that the selection of a new coach could take a while.
