Tulane Nears End Of Preseason Camp

The Tulane University football team had a productive two-hour workout in full pads on a sunny Thursday afternoon at the Westfeldt Facility. The Green Wave opened with special teams drills and then used the majority of the session to focus on a mix of passing and running drills.

In 11-on-11 drills, sophomore defensive back Sean Lucas stood out as a playmaker, knocking down numerous passes while also tallying one interception.

"It was a good practice," head coach Chris Scelfo said. "They're getting their legs back underneath them. The concentration-level was good and we were sound assignment-wise."

Scelfo, who has expressed concern with his team's fitness during camp, did say that he has been pleased with the team's progress. Thursday marked the 16th day of camp and the team is slated to close preseason with two Friday practices.

"Camp has put us into better shape," Scelfo said. "We got a look at guys who have to help us this season and we have also improved both fundamentally and technically, which is what you want from preseason. Injuries and a lack of mental toughness took away from camp early, but we've come together."

Following Friday's practices, the Green Wave will began regular-game preparation for its season-opener on Labor Day, Sept. 1 at the Louisiana Superdome at 7 p.m. against Conference USA foe TCU. Tickets for the game, which will be televised nationally by ESPN, as well as season tickets, are available by calling the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE.
