Losman, Boger Win Multiple Weekly Honors

"Those two guys were instrumental in Saturday's win," Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo said. "A lot of other players also played well in order for us to be successful against Mississippi State. We will need another tremendous effort out of everybody this week against Army."

The Tulane University football team had a pair of players honored with multiple weekly awards following its thrilling 31-28 come-from-behind victory over Mississippi State on Saturday.

Senior quarterback J.P. Losman was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week in voting by the league's media, while also collecting C-USA Performer of the Week honors from Dopke.com. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, junior safety Tra Boger was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, as well as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association (LSWA) Defensive Player of the Week.

"Those two guys were instrumental in Saturday's win," Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo said. "A lot of other players also played well in order for us to be successful against Mississippi State. We will need another tremendous effort out of everybody this week against Army."

Losman earned his honors after posting his third-straight 300-yard passing day, putting together one of the greatest fourth quarters in Tulane history on Saturday. The senior from Venice, Calif., led the Green Wave to a thrilling 31-28 come-from-behind victory over Mississippi State, improving the Wave to 2-1 on the year.

With the Wave trailing 28-14 with 8:22 to go in the game, Losman went to work, completing 13-of-17 passes for 146 yards in that stretch. He found seven different receivers and connected for a pair of touchdowns before his final drive set up the game-winning 32-yard field goal by freshman Barrett Pepper with six seconds remaining in the contest. He finished 29-of-47 for 349 yards with four touchdown strikes and zero interceptions. It was the sixth 300-yard passing game of his career.

While Losman keyed the Green Wave offensive attack on Saturday, it was Boger sparking the defense. The junior from Decatur, Ga., posted 12 tackles (eight solo), his second straight double-digit tackle game, while adding a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. No play was bigger than the fumble recovery, however, as he dove on a loose ball with 1:45 remaining in the game and the score tied at 28. That set up Losman's final drive and the game-winning field goal by Pepper.

Last week, Tulane's Mewelde Moore was honored as the LSWA Offensive Player of the Week, giving the Wave three different players earning weekly honors already this season.

Tulane now goes on the road for the first time this year, traveling to Army for a Saturday contest which will be televised by ESPN+. The game will be available throughout much of the state of Louisiana via Cox Sports Television (Ch. 37 in the New Orleans area). Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.(Central).

The Wave does not have another home game until Oct. 11, when it will host Houston for Homecoming at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. That game will have a 1:30 p.m. kickoff and will be preceeded by hours of Homecoming activities. Tickets are available by calling 504-861-WAVE.
