TULANE BASEBALL'S BOGUSEVIC NAMED C-USA, NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sophomore slugger/pitcher claims honor from league office and Collegiate Baseball Magazine Tulane University baseball standout Brian Bogusevic picked up a pair of weekly honors on Monday as the sophomore from Oak Lawn, Ill., was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week by the league office and Louisville Slugger Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.

The two-way player hit .538 (7-for-13) in the weekend sweep of C-USA Saint Louis with two home runs and eight RBI at the plate while also earning the win from the mound in a Friday night start when he tied a career high with 10 strikeouts while walking just one and scattering eight hits in 8.0 innings of work.

The weekly honor is the second of the season for Bogusevic, who was named Pitcher of the Week by C-USA, the Louisiana Sports Writers Asociation and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association back on April 12 after tossing 8 and-two-thirds scoreless innings against arch-rival LSU in a 1-0 Tulane win on April 6 at Alex Box Stadium.

Bogusevic's first home run of the weekend was a two-out, solo shot in the fourth inning in the Green Wave's 12-3 Saturday win over the Billikens, but the biggest blow of the series came in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday when the right fielder hit a walk-off grand slam to lift Tulane to a hard-fought 12-9 win over Saint Louis.

At the plate, Bogusevic tallied a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage, posted a pair of three-hit games and had multiple-RBI outings in all three games. On the mound, he gave up two runs in the first frame on Friday night, but settled down to allow just one run in his final seven innings of work to earn his eighth win of the season.

For the season, Bogusevic is hitting .332 (67-for-202) with 13 doubles, four triples and nine home runs while driving in a team-best 60 runs. As a pitcher, he is 8-4 with a 3.81 ERA , and paces the Green Wave with 74 strikeouts in a team-leading 85.0 innings of work. He also ranks second on the staff with a .260 opponent batting average.

Bogusevic and the Green Wave return to action on Thursday, May 20 when the Green Wave travels to "The Lone Star State" to take on C-USA foe Houston at 7 p.m. The game will be the first of at least five games Tulane will play at Cougar Field as the Green Wave play the Cougars again on Friday at 7 p.m., close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. and remain in Houston for the 2004 C-USA Tournament beginning on May 26.
