Green Wave Wrap Up Open Week Work

Tulane practiced Monday through Thursday at the facility before breaking for the weekend, the Wave's second off week in the last three thanks to Hurricane Ivan

NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave football team wrapped up its open week practice sessions Thursday with a two-hour workout at the Westfeldt Facility. Tulane practiced Monday through Thursday at the facility before breaking for the weekend, the Wave's second off week in the last three thanks to Hurricane Ivan.

"It's been a good week," said Head Coach Chris Scelfo. "Everyone has worked hard. We were in full pads for two days. We have really improved from a technical and fundamental standpoint, which is the most important thing for our young football team right now."

Tulane has played just one game in the last three weeks and missed five days of practice during the evacuation for Hurricane Ivan.

"When you lose days of practice and game time, it takes a little bit out of you, but we've got to overcome it," Scelfo said. "We looked better this week and I expect everyone to come back next week even more ready to work than they were this week as we prepare for East Carolina."

Tulane will resume preparations for its Oct. 9 game at East Carolina with a light workout on Sunday after taking Friday and Saturday off.

"I hope during the weekend off, the players catch up on their schoolwork," he said. "We are getting ready for midterms in the next few weeks and they need to get on the books."

Tulane (1-2, 0-1) will play a pair of conference road games – at East Carolina and at Memphis (Oct. 16) before returning to New Orleans for the Oct. 23rd Homecoming contest versus UAB at Tad Gormley Stadium. That game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. (Central) kickoff with pregame festivities to include tailgating in City Park, a parade, bands and presentation of the Homecoming Court. Tickets for the Homecoming contest are on sale through the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at 504-861-WAVE.
