Green Wave Surges Past Horned Frogs

Tulane (5-5, 3-4) ends TCU's (5-6, 3-5) streak of six consecutive bowl appearances with a 35-31 come-from-behind victory. Freshman quarterback Richard Irvin had a big debut and the Green Wave defense came up big late in the game to secure the 4-point victory.

Tulane trailed 31-21 with 9:32 left in the fourth quarter, following a field goal by Horned Frog kicker Peter LoCoco. On the ensuing drive, Richard Irvin drove Tulane 60 yards on 5 plays, finding Carl Davis in the endzone on a 25-yard scoring strike with 7:44 remaining.

TCU then drove to the Tulane 2-yard line. On 4th-and-goal the Green Wave defense rose to the occasion, holding Robert Merrill to a one yard gain, turning the ball back over to Irvin and the offense with 3:57 left on the clock. Irvin orchestrated a 10-play, 99-yard drive that culminated with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bush with just 48 seconds left in the game.

Irvin was impressive completing 22-of-37 pass attempts for 282 yards and 5 touchdowns with one interception. True-freshman Matt Forte led Tulane in rushing with 97 yards on 28 carries. He also had 4 receptions for 38 yards. Chris Bush the Green Wave in receiving with 6 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Senior, Carl Davis added 5 receptions for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. Roydell Williams finished the afternoon with 5 catches for 42 yards and one score. Defensively, Israel Route led the Green Wave with 13 tackles.

Tulane returns home to face Louisville, Saturday, December 4th. A win in the finale would be the Green Wave's fourth consecutive victory and secure a winning record. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
