Bogusevic Earns C-USA, National Weekly Honors

After giving up a leadoff double in the second inning, Bogusevic retired the next 19 batters he faced, including 11 by strikeout. Bogusevic was held out of the offensive starting lineup for the weekend as a precautionary measure due to a slightly pulled left hamstring, but the big lefty did come through in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with a clutch three-run, pinch-hit double to snap a 3-all tie in the bottom of the eighth to account for a 6-3 final score.

NEW ORLEANS, La.–Tulane University baseball standout Brian Bogusevic picked up a pair of weekly honors as the preseason All-American was named Louisville Slugger Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and Conference USA Pitcher of the Week by the league office on Monday.

A native of Oak Lawn, Ill., Bogusevic earned the distinctions after striking out a career-high 13 with no walks in an 8.0-inning performance against Southeast Missouri as the top-ranked Green Wave claimed a 9-0 victory in Friday's season-opener. He limited the Redhawks to two hits while facing just three more than the minimum during his time on the hill.

The weekly honors marked the third time in his career that Bogusevic received both national and conference honors. Last season, he was the only player in the nation to earn national weekly honors as both a pitcher and a hitter as Bogusevic was named Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on April 12 and Louisville Slugger Player of the Week on May 17.

Bogusevic and the Green Wave return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 15, when Tulane plays host to McNeese State at 6:30 p.m. at Turchin Stadium. For ticket information, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at 504-861-WAVE or log on to the internet at www.tulanegreenwave.com.
