NEW ORLEANS, La.–On the heels of the first complete-game shutout of his career, Tulane University baseball standout Brian Bogusevic was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Bogusevic, a consensus preseason All-American and early choice for C-USA Player of the Year, earned the award for the second time in 2005 after striking out eight and walking just a pair in Friday's 3-0 victory at Pepperdine. Bogusevic shared C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors with Casey Hudspeth of USF, while Memphis' Ryan Martin was named Hitter of the Week.

In Friday's blanking of the Waves, Bogusevic faced just five more than the minimum on the afternoon and allowed just one Pepperdine runner to get as far as third base. Pepperdine did not have multiple base runners in any inning, and Bogusevic retired the side in order three times.

For the season, Bogusevic is now 3-0 with a sparkling 0.39 ERA while posting 27 strikeouts and just five walks. He has help opponents to a .130 batting average (10-for-77) with just one extra-base hit. The complete game was the fourth of his career, and Bogusevic has pitched in five Tulane shutouts over the past two seasons.

In addition to earning the C-USA honor on Monday, Bogusevic was also named league Pitcher of the Week back on Feb. 14 after striking out a career-high 13 in Tulane's season-opening victory over Southeast Missouri State. Bogusevic was also named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, Pro-Line Cap Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and CSTV: College Sports Television Student-Athlete of the Week by the cable-based network.

Bogusevic and the Green Wave return to action on Tuesday, March 1, when they play host to cross-town foe UNO at 6:30 p.m. at Turchin Stadium. For ticket information, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE.
