No.1 Tulane To Host Marist In Weekend Series

This weekend's games mark the first time Tulane and Marist will meet on the diamond. The Green Wave have, however, played 12 games vs. teams from the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) with a 9-0 mark against Manhattan and a 3-0 record vs. Siena.

NEW ORLEANS, La.–The top-ranked Tulane University baseball team will look to improve on a 10-1 record and remain perfect at home over the weekend when the Green Wave play host to Marist College beginning Friday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. in Turchin Stadium.

Tulane, which is 7-0 on campus and 1-0 at Zephyr Field, will battle the Red Foxes on Saturday at 2 p.m. before closing out the weekend on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on the radio on WRBH 88.3 FM and live stats will once again be provided on the internet at www.tulanegreenwave.com.

As a team, the Green Wave are hitting .301 with a .476 slugging percentage courtesy of 18 doubles, one triple and 14 home runs. Senior catcher/designated hitter Scott Madden leads the team with a .455 batting average, while senior outfielder Matt Barket ranks second on the club with a .395 mark. Barket and junior utility athlete Micah Owings are tied for the Green Wave lead with 11 RBI, and Owings is tied with sophomore Mark Hamilton with three home runs each.

From the mound, the Green Wave have a sparkling 2.48 ERA and have limited opponents to a .218 batting average. Brian Bogusevic paces the team in ERA with a 0.39 mark in a team-best 23.0 innings of work. Tulane's bullpen has been perfect so far in 2005 with a 0.00 ERA in 24 innings, and rookie Sean Morgan leads the team with three saves.

Marist comes into this weekend's meetings 1-2 on the year after dropping two of three last weekend at the Mardi Gras Ball Baseball Classic in Lafayette, La. The Red Foxes dropped the first two games, 10-1 and 6-1, to host UL-Lafayette and Texas State, respectively, before winning on Sunday, 7-5, over Miami (Ohio).

The Red Foxes are hitting .216 as a team with a .306 slugging percentage on the strength of three doubles, two triples and a home run. Travis Musolf paces the squad with a .500 batting average, followed by Joe Sargent and Keith Brachold with marks of .417 and .231, respectively. Sargent has Marist's lone home run so far, and Musolf paces the Red Foxes with thre driven in.

As a staff, Marist has a 5.79 ERA and have allowed opponents to hit at a .294 clip in 28.0 innings. Red Fox hurlers have combined for 16 strikeouts and 12 walks. Chris Tracz, who is slated to start on Saturday, paces Marist with perfect ERA, and in strikeouts with five.

Following the weekend against the Red Foxes, Tulane returns to action on Tuesday, March 8, when the Green Wave travels to the state capitol to take on arch-rival LSU at 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium. The game vs. the Tigers is the first of four consecutive games Tulane will play against teams ranked in the Top 5 as defending champion Cal State Fullerton visits The Big Easy next weekend for a three-game tilt.
