Tulane enters the weekend series vs. Cal State Fullerton 14-1 on the year and riding the crest of a six-game winning streak that includes a series sweep of Marist last weekend at Turchin Stadium and a 6-2 victory over arch-rival LSU Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium

NEW ORLEANS, La.–In the midst of one of the toughest stretches thus far in 2005, the No. 1 ranked Tulane University baseball team will take on defending national champion Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Turchin Stadium.

Friday and Sunday's games will be played at the on-campus facility, while Saturday's contest will take place at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La. Friday's series opener will be televised live on Cox Sports Television (local channel 37), and all three games will be broadcast on the radio at WRBH 88.3 FM. In addition, live stats are available via Game Tracker on the internet at www.tulanegreenwave.com.

As a team, the Green Wave are hitting .320 with a .506 slugging percentage courtesy of 28 doubles, two triples and 21 home runs. Senior catcher/designated hitter Scott Madden leads the team with a .460 batting average, while senior outfielder Matt Barket ranks second on the club with a .362 mark. Junior utility athlete Micah Owings, who hammered four home runs in as many games last week, leads the Green Wave with six round trippers, and senior shortstop Tommy Manzella paces the squad with 16 RBI.

From the mound, the Green Wave have a sparkling 2.53 ERA and have limited opponents to a .231 batting average. Friday-night starter Brian Bogusevic paces the team in ERA with a 0.90 mark in a team-best 30.0 innings of work. Tulane's bullpen has been nearly perfect so far in 2005 with a 0.48 ERA in 37.1 innings, and rookie Sean Morgan leads the team with three saves.

Cal State Fullerton comes into this weekend's showdown 12-2 on the year, and brings a seven-game winning streak of its own to The Big Easy.

The Titans are hitting .359 as a team with a .522 slugging percentage on the strength of 36 doubles, five triples and 13 home runs. Ronnie Prettyman paces the squad with a .423 batting average, followed by Brett Pill and Blake Davis with marks of .403 and .383, respectively. Pill and Sergio Pedroza are tied for the Cal State Fullerton with three home runs each, and Davis paces the Titans with 15 RBI.

As a staff, Cal State Fullerton has a 3.01 ERA and has held opponents to an eye-popping .194 batting average in 125.2 innings. Titan hurlers have combined for 126 strikeouts and just 48 walks. Ricky Romero paces Cal State Fullerton with four wins, and Ryan Schreppel leads the squad with a 1.93 ERA. Vinnie Pestano has three of Cal State Fullerton's four saves with 8.2 innings of relief.

This weekend marks the ninth, 10th and 11th times Tulane and Cal State Fullerton will meet on the diamond, and the Green Wave enter the series looking for their first-ever win over the Titans as the defending national champs owns an 8-0 lifetime mark vs. Tulane. The last time the two teams met was in last season's Super Regional matchup in Fullerton, Calif., where the Titans defeated the Green wave 9-0 and 10-7 to earn a spot in the College World Series.
