Tulane To Battle Texas Southern Tuesday At Turchin

Following a 2-2 weekend in four games against teams ranked in the Top 5, Tulane now ranks third in the country in the Baseball America poll, released on Monday. In addition, the Green Wave rank fourth in the Collegiate Baseball, Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association

NEW ORLEANS, La.–The Tulane University baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 15, when the Green Wave play host to Texas Southern at 6:30 p.m. at Turchin Stadium.

The game vs. the Tigers will be the final tuneup before opening Conference USA play over the weekend against defending league champion East Carolina. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live on the radio on WRBH 88.3 FM and live stats will be provided online via Game Tracker at www.tulanegreenwave.com.

The Green Wave enter the midweek matchup 15-3 on the year after going 2-2 last week against a pair of teams ranked in the Top 5. Tulane sandwiched a 6-2 win at LSU on Tuesday night and a 13-9 victory over defending national champion Cal State Fullerton around 15-1 and 9-8 losses to the Titans.

Junior right-hander Billy Mohl is slated to make his first start of the season on Tuesday, and he will be matched up with Texas Southern's Brandon Stricklen. Mohl has appeared in five games for Tulane in 2005 and has a flawless ERA with a win, nine strikeouts and just one walk in 10.2 innings of work.

Stricklen, also a junior righty, will be making his fourth start of the year and comes into the game 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA. He has held opponents to a .260 batting average and has fanned 20 compared to just seven walks.

As a team, Tulane is hitting at a .313 clip and is led by senior Scott Madden, who ranks fourth in C-USA with a .422 batting average. Junior centerfielder Nathan Southard and senior shortstop Tommy Manzella are next with marks of .354 and .351, respectively, and junior utility athlete Micah Owings paces the squad with six home runs.

Texas Southern, meanwhile, enters Tuesday's game hitting .276 and has a .385 slugging percentage courtesy of 16 doubles and eight home runs. David Arrendendo leads the Tigers with a .421 batting average, followed by Donald Green and J'Daniel Stewart with marks of .366 and .333, respectively. Green leads TSU with four home runs and 13 RBI.
