NEW ORLEANS, La.–After posting a career-high in strikeouts for the second time in three weeks, Tulane University baseball standout Micah Owings was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Owings, a 6-5 utility athlete from Gainesville, Ga., earned the weekly honor after striking out 11 Blazers in Friday night's 11-3 win over Conference USA foe UAB. The title is his first C-USA award of the season and second overall weekly honor for Owings as he was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on March 7.

Versus UAB, he scattered four hits and a pair of walks in a seven-inning start, and retired 10 batters in a row during the middle innings. Owings fanned at least one batter in six of his seven frames, including striking out the side in the second and posting a pair of Ks in the first, fourth and seventh innings.

In addition to his dominance on the mound, Owings tied a career-high at the plate on Sunday when he went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a home run and three RBI in the Green Wave's 13-5 series finale victory over the Blazers. The four hits were a season high for Owings, and tied his personal mark set last season as a sophomore at Georgia Tech.

For the season, Owings is 3-3 with a 4.47 ERA, 49 strikeouts and just seven walks in 54.1 innings of work. He has limited opponents to a .242 batting average (50-for-207). At the plate, Owings is hitting .284 in 2005 with a team-best eight home runs to go along with eight doubles, a triple and 20 home runs.

Owings and the Green Wave return to action on Tuesday, April 5, when Tulane travels across town to take on the Privateers of UNO at 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field. Tickets to that game can be purchased through the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office for just $6. For more information, contact the Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE.
