NEW ORLEANS, La.–Two days after leading the Green Wave to a 4-0 week, Tulane University baseball standout Micah Owings was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week, the organization announced Monday.

Owings, a junior utility athlete from Gainesville, Ga., hit .400 (6-for-15) with a double, a home run and eight RBI at the plate, and picked up his sixth win of the season from the mound in a six-inning start vs. Conference USA foe Memphis on Friday. He posted at least one hit and reached base twice via hit or walk in all four games, and posted a .526 on-base percentage in the four-game sweep.

Owings had two-hit outings on Tuesday vs. cross-town foe UNO and Friday against Memphis, and was walked twice intentionally in Saturday's 11-10 win over the Tigers. In Friday's 13-2 win over Memphis, he went 2-for-3 with a towering, two-run homer that cleared the light stand in left field to go along with a season-best five RBI, and posted two hits vs. the Privateers on Tuesday with a double and two RBI.

In his Friday-night start on the mound, Owings struck out nine, walked two and gave up two runs on three hits to improve to 6-4 in 2005.

For the year, Owings is hitting .325 with a team-best .709 slugging percentage on the strength of 10 doubles, three triples and a C-USA leading 14 home runs, and ranks tied for second on the team with 44 RBI. From the hill, Owings paces the squad with 91 strikeouts and a 6.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio with just 15 walks in 85.2 innings of work. His 3.78 ERA is second on the club while posting a team-best .231 opponent batting average.

The weekly honor is the fourth of the season for Owings, who claimed Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball and earned a spot on the College Baseball Foundation Honor Roll on March 7, C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week and CBF Honor Roll recognition on April 4, and LSWA Player of the Week and CBF Honor Roll honors on April 11.
