Game Times Set For 2005 Tulane Football Season

The Green Wave will open the 2005 season with a nationally-televised ESPN2 game at Southern Miss on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 3 p.m., while either ESPN or ESPN2 will televise the Tulane-UTEP contest from the Louisiana Superdome on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 7 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane will play its 2005 home football games at 7 p.m. (Sept. 17 versus Mississippi State and Oct. 14 versus UTEP), 6 p.m. (Oct. 8 versus Houston, Oct. 29 versus Marshall and Nov. 19 versus Tulsa) and 2:30 p.m. (Oct. 1 Homecoming game versus Southeastern Louisiana at Tad Gormley Stadium), Green Wave Athletic Director Rick Dickson announced Tuesday as Tulane put the finishing touches on its 2005 football schedule.

With four national television appearances on ESPN, ESPN2 or College Sports Television already set, several of the game times for both home and away contests were made by the televising network.

7 p.m. is also the start time for Tulane's home opener versus Mississippi State on Sept. 17 as that game will be broadcast on College Sports Television. CSTV will also air the Tulane-Navy game from Annapolis at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. More television dates could be added in the future as Conference USA enters into a new agreement with College Sports Television for the 2005-06 season.

"We're very excited about the opportunity for increased national exposure thanks to our league's new agreement with College Sports Television, as well as the continuing opportunity to be on the ESPN networks," Dickson said. "We think the 6 p.m. start time for games which are not televised live appeals to the broadest fan base, including students, families and our long-time supporters. In addition, we want to try and build some continuity with our non-televised games, so we felt it was important to carry the 6 p.m. time over from last year."

Barring a change for television, Tulane will play only one day game at home this year, and that is the Homecoming contest on Oct. 1 versus Southeastern Louisiana, which will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. It marks the fourth straight year the Green Wave will play its homecoming contest outside at Tad Gormley Stadium, which affords an opportunity for traditional homecoming activities including a parade and expanded tailgating and has proven very popular with the university community and alumni from across the country.

Game times for Tulane's road contests at SMU (7 p.m., Sept. 24), UCF (5 p.m., Oct. 22) and Rice (2 p.m., Nov. 12) have also been set. Tulane is scheduled to play four day games in 2005, while seven games will kick off at 5 p.m. or later. All game times are subject to change.
