Rogers Takes Over

After backing up three-year starter Jimmy Kosienski for two seasons, redshirt junior Derek Rogers (6-5, 309) is expected to take over at right tackle. Tulane returns four-fifths of its offensive line this season and Rogers may be the only new starter in 2005.

However, it may not be a done deal, yet. After suffering a back injury this spring, redshirt freshman Tom Danel (6-7, 318) got all of the reps at right tackle, not Rogers. Danel is an imposing figure, but he needs more seasoning before he's ready to start. Rogers is expected to be healthy this fall and reassume his position in the starting lineup.

Rogers enters the 2005 season with 23 career appearances, with 4 starts. In 2003, he appeared in every game as a redshirt freshman, including 2 starts, and graded out at 73% on 265 plays. Last season, he earned two more starts when Kosienski struggled. Rogers appears ready to assume a starting role. Expect little if any fall-off from last year production at right tackle.
