Green Wave To Host UCF For Weekend

The UCF series is the first time the two teams are set to play for since 1990 and is part of a nine-game homestand for the Green Wave. The homestand will continue with Tulane taking on LSU on Tuesday, April 18, host Stephen F. Austin in a three-game series on April 21-23, and battles Northwestern State on Tuesday, April 25.

NEW ORLEANS, La.–The Tulane University baseball team returns to action on Friday, April 14, when the Green Wave play host to Conference USA newcomer UCF in game one of a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Zephyr Field.

Tulane will be looking to improve on a 21-14 overall mark and a 3-6 record in league play, but will try and do so against a team the Green Wave have played just four times in the previous 100-plus history of the program. The all-time series is tied at two games each, and the last time Tulane played the Golden Knights was back on April 21, 1990, when the Green Wave swept a doubleheader, 13-2 and 2-1, at old Tulane Diamond.

The two teams play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. and close out the weekend on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on the flagship station of Tulane Baseball, WRBH 88.3 FM, and the calls are also available on www.TulaneGreenWave.com to subscribers of the All-Access Pass. As a team, the Green Wave are hitting .280 with a .389 slugging percentage courtesy of 58 doubles, six triples and 19 home runs. Redshirt- freshman right fielder Warren McFadden leads the Green Wave with a .349 batting average, while junior first baseman Mark Hamilton and senior centerfielder Nathan Southard follow closely with respective marks of .339 and .316. Hamilton paces the team with seven home runs and 36 RBI, and Southard leads the squad with 20 steals in 22 attempts.

From the mound, the Green Wave have a 3.92 ERA and have held opponents to a .254 batting average. As a staff, Tulane hurlers have combined for 253 strikeouts and 85 walks in 312 innings. Redshirt-freshman Stephen Porlier leads the team with a 3.43 ERA, Gomes has a team-high 59.1 innings, and Morgan paces the K-club with 66 strikeouts. Junior Daniel Latham paces the bullpen with 20 appearances and has all seven of the Green Wave's saves.

UCF, meanwhile, comes to town 20-16 overall, 3-3 in league play and fresh off a 4-3 win over USF on Tuesday night in Orlando.

As a team, the Golden Knights are hitting .294 with a .409 slugging percentage courtesy of 66 doubles, 14 triples and 18 home runs. Tyson Auer paces UCF with a .369 batting average while Ryan Bono and Matt Ray follow with .336 and .318 averages, respectively. Bono, Kiko Vazquez and Steve Stropp pace the club with four home runs each, Bono has a team-best 26 RBI, and Ray leads the team with a perfect 21-for-24 showing in stolen bases.

From the mound, the Golden Knights sport a 3.61 ERA and have held opponents to a .233 batting average. As a staff, UCF hurlers combined for 303 strikeouts and 130 walks in 322 innings. Tim Bascum leads the Golden Knights with five wins, 59.0 innings pitched, and 74 strikeouts. Dominic Petracca paces the bullpen with 18 relief appearances and has eight of the Golden Knights' nine saves in 2006.
