Black Knights Spoil Homecoming

Tulane (2-3) fell to Army (1-4) 44-13 Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium. Despite outgaining the Black Knights 486 to 334, the Green Wave could only manage 13 points. Cadet fullback Collin Mooney fueled the Black Knights' offense, rushing for 187 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries.

Throughout the contest Tulane was plagued by costly miscues. The Green Wave racked up 10 penalties while Army was flagged only twice. Tulane also turned the ball over four times (3 interceptions and one fumble recovery).

Army's first two scores came as a result of Tulane errors. Ross Thevenot's first punt of the game was blocked and returned to Tulane's 22 yard line. From there, Collin Mooney accounted for all 22 yards of the Black Knight's opening drive to give Army a 7-0 lead. Tulane would move into the redzone on the ensuing drive only to have the ball fly out of Kevin Moore's hand as he was setting up to pass. Stephen Anderson picked up the fumble and returned it 81 yards and the route was on.

Tulane scored 13 unanswered points to narrow the deficit to 23-13. Andre Anderson ran in from one yard out for the Green Wave's first score with 2:19 remaining in the first half. Jeremy Williams then caught a 49 yard scoring strike from Kevin Moore in the middle of the field midway through the third quarter. Army ended the Green Wave comeback with 21 unanswered points.

Kevin Moore finished the afternoon, completing 22 of 35 pass attempts for 273 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Andre Anderson posted his third consecutive 100-yard game, rushing for 107 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries. Anderson also had 6 receptions for 56 yards. Jeremy Williams had 3 catches for 81 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injured hand. Defensively, Chinonso Echebelem led Tulane with 8 tackles and blocked a extra point attempt in the first half.

Tulane returns to action Saturday against UTEP in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
