UAB Spoils Senior Day

Tulane (2-8, 1-5) dropped its sixth straight contest Saturday to UAB (3-7, 2-4) 41-24 in the Green Wave's final home game of the 2008 season. The Blazer's pounded the Green Wave defense for 272 yards on the ground. UAB quarterback Joe Webb led the way with 130 yards and 3 touchdowns on 18 carries. Webb also passed for 154 yards on the afternoon.

Webb capped a 10-play, 96 yard drive with a 31 yard touchdown run in the first quarter to get things started. Tulane answered when J.T. McDonald scored from 3 yards out with 4:02 remaining in the opening period. Running back Rashaud Slaughter put the Blazers up 14-7 with a one-yard run in the second quarter. McDonald then tied things up at 14 when the redshirt freshman took a short swing pass 28 yards to paydirt. UAB kicked a field goal with 2:02 left in the half to take a 17-14 advantage to the locker room.

Webb opened the second half scoring with a 3 yard touchdown to expand the Blazer's lead to 24-14. McDonald then scored from 13 yards out to cut the UAB lead to 24-21 with 6:47 remaining in the third period. From there, UAB outscored the Green Wave 17-3 down the stretch cementing the Blazer's 17-point victory.

On the ground, Tulane was led by Nathan Austin with 43 yards on 8 carries. However, McDonald was one of the few bright spots for the Green Wave posting 108 yards of total offense (41 rushing and 67 receiving) and all three Green Wave touchdowns. Kevin Moore completed 15 of 30 pass attempts for 235 yards and one score, but was intercepted 3 times on the afternoon. Brian King led all Green Wave receivers with 3 catches for 74 yards. Defensively, the Green Wave was paced by senior safety David Skehan who recorded 9 tackles and one pass breakup.

Tulane travels to Tulsa to face the Golden Hurricanes. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
