Tulane Outlasts Cowboys

Tulane (1-0) held McNeese State (0-1) to 19.2% shooting from the field in the first half, then held on in the second half to take a 68-62 victory in the season opener at Fogelman Arena Saturday night. Kevin Sims and Kris Richard pace the Green Wave with 17 points apiece.

Neither team was able to take a decisive advantage in the first half as the Green Wave held on to a tenuous 21-19 lead at the break. Tulane then went on a 10-5 run keyed by forward Johnny Mayhane, giving the Green Wave some much needed breathing room. From there Tulane held on until guard Kevin Sims put the game out of reach sinking two free throws with 7 seconds remaining in the contest.

In addition to tying for the lead in scoring, Kris Richard also led the Green Wave in rebounds with seven, assists with three, and steals with three. Richard also chipped in two blocked shots for good measure. Sims recorded 6 rebounds on the evening. Robinson Louisme was a force in the paint with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, and two steals.

Tulane travels to Austin, Texas, to face the Texas Longhorns Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
