Signing Day Snapshot: Oklahoma

In this Oklahoma National Signing Day Snapshot takes a look at the Top Prospect, The Sleeper, The Late Addition and The One Who Got Away.

The Top Prospect

Keith Ford, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound 5-star running back from Cypress (Texas) Ranch High was the first commit in a class that ended up rated as the No. 1 class in the Big 12 once again. He is a bruiser who will run physically in between the tackles and blast defenders in the mouth, but he also has some nifty feet and open field skills, a lethal combination. He showed that flash as an Under-Armour All-American., where he earned the opportunity to return kicks.

The Sleeper

Was thinking about going out of region for my sleeper pick again this year with an eye on Ahmad Thomas., but instead will keep it local with Norman (Texas) North linebacker Jordan Evans. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder earned his scholarship by working hard and making plays all over the field as a senior. That work ethic and desire can not be coached in to a player and expect him to carry a chip on his shoulder in to his college playing days.

The Late Addition

Dakota Austin, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound cornerback from Lancaster (Texas) High has an interestingly ironic story as it relates to the Sooners. He comes from the same high school as Demontre Hurst, has a similar build and like the outgoing Sooner he came on his official visit , got offered and committed just days before National Letter of Intent Day. If he can have a similar impact as Hurst then it would be a great late signing indeed.

The One Who Got Away

There is no doubt that this honor belongs Dallas (Texas) Kimball high defensive tackle Justin Manning. The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder is the brother of former OU defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger and it seemed like the Sooners had the inside track. Justin, after all, was with Demarcus on his official visit to Soonerland years ago. In the end , he opted to start a new legacy in College Station.
