The City Champions, paced by the explosive DeAnthony Thomas, try to get in the win column after falling to a team from Georgia last weekend. They'll take on a hungry Norco team, who lost a nail-biter a year ago to Crenshaw, and Stanford commit Kelsey Young will try to prove that he's the best ball-carrier on the field. Two of the Southland's best offensive lineman will also be on display in Crenshaw's Marcus Martin, a USC commit and Norco's Brent Walker, a strong UCLA lean.
Lakewood vs. St. John Bosco
Several top prospects will headline the field for the Lancers, as well as for the Braves. The Lancers are led by elite defensive tackle Todd Barr and and have UCLA commit Torian White at left tackle. The Lancers defense also has linebacker Rahim Cassell and cornerback Rashad Wadood, a commit to Arizona State. Lakewood features two studs in the 2012 class at receiver in Malik Gilmore and Darius Powe while St. John Bosco has a standout in the 2012 class of their own at receiver in Bryce Treggs. Another top underclassmen, St. John Bosco's Beau Boyster, is along the offensive line and will be charged with stopping Barr.
Gardena Serra vs. Redondo Union
Fresh off a rout of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in the opener, the Cavs will take on Redondo Union, with their squad featuring the West's top outside linebacker Jason Gibson, California's best receiver in George Farmer and a crafty and winning quarterback Connor Preston. Serra also has a couple of good underclassmen in Anterio Bateman (2013) and Raymond Ford (2012), at running back and cornerback respectively.
Chandler vs. Casa Grande
With the weight of his recruitment off his shoulders, new UCLA committed quarterback Brett Hundley will try to get Chandler back on the winning side of things when they take on Casa Grande in their third game of the season. Hundley has averaged 313 yards passing in his first two games for Chandler.
Loyola at Mission Viejo
The Cubs won in an ugly affair under first-year head coach Mike Christensen in the opener and quarterback Jerry Neuheisel will lead the offense using junior receiver Kodi Whitfield and running back Jared Baker. Mission Viejo traveled up to Seattle to take on Washington state powerhouse Bothell and cruised to a 49-13 win over them in the Emerald City Kickoff Classic. The Diablos mix it up with USC committed linebacker Tre Madden running some Wildcat and then using 2012 quarterback Alex Bridgford, the younger brother of Cal quarterback Allen Bridgford, when they're running the more traditional offense.
St. Bonaventure vs. Long Beach Poly
For the third straight year, the two CIF-SS powerhouse programs meet in the rubber match between the best two green-and-gold teams in SoCal. Poly won in 2008 and St. Bonaventure rolled in 2009, so this year will put one ahead of the other. The Jackrabbits feature Washington commit Kameron Jackson and three-star linebacker Corey Waller while the Seraphs have a couple of prospects in the 2011 class at linebacker in Jalen Jefferson and defensive end in Cody Kurz and a 2012 stud on the offensive line in David Barajas.
Stockton Lincoln vs. Stockton Edison
UCLA's committed receiver Brandin Cooks, who committed to the Bruins back in the spring, went over 100 yards in the opener and he and teammate Charles Howard, a defensive lineman in the 2012 class will take on upstart Edison, who boasts a handful of D-I prospects.
Bakersfield Liberty vs. Bakersfield West
Two players who starred at UCLA camps will face each other, though at completely different positions. Bakersfield Liberty two-way lineman Cody Temple leads Liberty in the trenches and West has Fred Wilson at cornerback and receiver in this crosstown rivalry game.
