JR Prospect Brigham Harwell

He's among the best defensive linemen in the west in the junior class, and Los Altos's Brigham Harwell had a childhood favorite growing up that has already offered him a scholarship...

Brigham Harwell, 6-3, 250, Hacienda Heights (Calif.) Los Altos, had a monster junior season, totaling 98 tackles and a state leading 25 quarterback sacks in leading the Conqueror's to a 13-1 record and the CIF Div V Championship.

This comes on the heels of his standout sophomore year where he totaled 89 tackles and 22.5 quarterback sacks.

In reviewing Los Altos title game win over Foothill, Harwell was dominant all game long and spent a lot of time in the opposing backfield. As a defensive end, he has excellent pass rushing technique, can get up the field and is relentless in pursuit of the ball carrier, making several tackles clear across the field.

The one area Harwell could work on is his overall strength level as he's better against the run when the plays are run away from him as opposed to when a team runs right at him. Still, he has a great frame and works hard, so his upside is considerable.

Recruiting attention has come in from all over, and Harwell already has offers from UCLA and Arizona.

"UCLA is my childhood favorite and my leader right now since they have already offered me," Harwell said. "I also like Arizona, USC, Florida State and Penn State. How I connect with the coaches will play a big role in my college choice."

Although Harwell currently lists the Bruins as his top school, the word among the Los Altos coaches is once USC offers, they could very well move up to the top spot.

The talented lineman is carrying a 2.87 GPA and will attend the SoCal Nike Camp as well as team camps at both USC and UCLA.
