Things Change for Maston

Bakersfield (Calif.) defensive back Mercy Maston recently received a new scholarship offer and that now has changed his perspective on his recruitment and the timing of a decision...

Bakersfield (Calif.) defensive back Mercy Maston (5-11, 185) got a new offer on September 1st to add to his list, and that school is coming off a big win.

"Boise State offered me verbally on September 1st," said Maston. "They said they liked me and wanted to see more of me. I know (Boise State receiver) Titus Young and he wants me to go there."

Maston said USC is also in wait-and-see mode with him.

"They got my junior film just last week and they said they wanted to see some of my senior film before they decide if they're going to offer him."

Two other Pac-10 schools that have offered him are UCLA and Arizona State, and Maston maintains that those two schools are standing out for him.

"I had a long chat with UCLA (on Wednesday night)," said Maston. "They like me as a safety or as a corner. I'm going to try and get down to some of their games. I like UCLA a lot."

Arizona State is right there too for Maston.

"They really like me too and think I could play a couple of positions for them," said Maston.

Maston said he doesn't want to make a decision anytime soon, choosing to go through the process some before narrowing his focus down to one, a change from his plans to commit before the season.

"I want to take some of my visits and then I'll decide after my season most likely," said Maston.
