Friday Prospect Preview: Week 3

One big clash in the Bay Area, between Concord De La Salle and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, is the headliner in a weekend of few intriguing matchups...

Game of the Week: Concord De La Salle vs. Las Vegas Bishop Gorman
The top two state champions from California and Nevada, De La Salle and Gorman, meet on Saturday night, in a game strewn with prospects.  Gorman boasts five-star defensive end Jalen Grimble, a USC commit, who UCLA targeted, and Evan Zeger at safety, a Washington commit also with a UCLA offer.  They also have some young talent, like running back Shaquille Powell in the 2012 class.  The Spartans have arguably the best quarterback in the 2012 class in California, Bart Houston, who camped at UCLA this summer, and a pair of 2011 commits in Dylan Wynn (Oregon State) and Blake Renaud (Boise State).  For sheer high school football, this will be as good a game as any.

Mission Viejo vs. Long Beach Poly
What might be the most high-powered offense in the Southern Section, Mission Viejo, takes on perennial power Long Beach Poly in a key non-league game for both.  The Diablos are 3-0 and have been putting up numbers with ease, but they'll be without USC-commit Tre Madden, who suffered a foot injury.  Mission Viejo has a good 2012 quarterback in Alex Bridgford while Jahleel Pinner and Austin Reuland, some more underclass prospects, to keep the offense churning.  Poly hopes to bring back UCLA recruit Corey Waller, at linebacker, from a shoulder injury which has sidelined him recently.  Washington commit Kameron Jackson figures to anchor the Poly secondary against Mission's passing game.

St. John Bosco vs. Loyola
The Cubs have dropped consecutive games, but quarterback Jerry Neuheisel seems to be hitting his stride, coming off a big game last week against Newport Harbor, throwing for over 300 yards.  The Cubs also boast a top 2012 receiver in Kori Whitfield and Arizona commit Jared Baker in the backfield, who both went over 100 yards last week.  St. John Bosco has a 2012 stud of their own, receiver Bryce Treggs, a Scout 100 member who's been to UCLA games this year and another UCLA recruit in Beau Boyster, at offensive tackle, who camped with the Bruins.

Woodland Hills Taft vs. Alemany
Taft, with USC commit Antwaun Woods and Arizona State commit Michael Bercovici leading the defense and offense, meet unbeaten Alemany from Mission Hills, who boast offensive tackle Akeem Gonzales in a key intersectional game.  Also watch for 2011 receiver Michael Thomas, who's been blossoming this fall for the Toreadors.

Leuzinger vs. Lakewood
Lakewood, featuring UCLA commit Torian White, UCLA target Todd Barr and Rahim Cassell and the best pair of junior receivers in the state, Malik Gilmore and Darius Powe, takes on Leuzinger in their final tuneup before they begin defending their Moore League title.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Stockton Lincoln and receiver Brandin Cooks face crosstown rival Stockton St. Mary's.  Modesto Christian and tight end Raymond Nelson face Riverbank. Rancho Bernardo and Aaron Wallace take on Escondido. Plano East and center Jacob Brendel meet Flower Mound Marcus.  Los Alamitos offensive tackle Ben Wysocki and the Griffins take on Valley Center. Arvada West and Marc Mustoe are off.

Other UCLA Offerees in Action
Norco, behind UCLA target Brent Walker and Stanford commit Kelsey Young, will face UC Davis commit Justin Nunes and 2012 receiver Kenny Lawler .  Encino Crespi and 2012 tackle Jordan Simmons and recruit Devin Lucien at receiver take on Chula Vista. Foothill takes on Bakersfield and Mercy Maston. Point Loma and defensive tackle Christian Heyward take on Scripps Ranch. Moreno Valley Rancho Verde and tight end Junior Pomee take on Yucaipa.  Cornerback Stefan McClure and Vista take on Great Oak.  Beverly Hills and defensive end Greg Townsend face Hamilton.
