Friday Prospect Preview: Week Six

League play is underway in just about every section in the region, so the glamorous games are on hold until the playoffs start, but there are some intriguing matchups in Week Six...

Game of the Week: Norco vs. Corona Santiago
The Cougars suffered their first loss last week, to Corona Roosevelt and they'll try to right the ship and keep their Big VIII title hopes alive when they visit Corona Santiago.  Norco is led by Stanford commit Kelsey Young at running back and UCLA lean Brent Walker on the offensive line.  Santiago features San Diego State commit Jemond Hazely at receiver and three-star cornerback Thierry Nguema.

Chandler vs. Red Mountain
After suffering a loss to crosstown rival Chandler Hamilton two weeks ago, the Brett Hundley-led Chandler squad returns to action after a bye week, and will take on a solid and steady Red Mountain team that is 5-1.

Notre Dame vs. Loyola
Two teams who had mixed results in the preseason meet in a Serra League opener.  The Cubs hope to get quarterback Jerry Neuheisel back this week, after he's been out with a concussion, but Jared Baker, the Arizona commit in the backfield, has carried the load in his absence.  Notre Dame is down, talent-wise, and may end up on the wrong end of the Serra League, a league they've dominated the past few years.

Encino Crespi vs. Bishop Amat
Crespi has UCLA recruit Devin Lucien at receiver and UCLA offer holder Jordan Simmons, a 2012 prospect on the offensive line and some emerging defenders like Reginald Coates and Ronald Ussery.  Amat features intriguing tight end Wallace Gonzales, who missed all of 2009 because of a transfer, in another Serra League opener.

Lakewood vs. Long Beach Cabrillo
The Lancers suffered their first loss of the season last week against Long Beach Poly and will try to rebound against what should be an overmatched Cabrillo squad.  Lakewood is paced by UCLA commit Torian White on the offensive line and recruit Todd Barr on defense, plus 2012 prospects Darius Powe and Malik Gilmore at receiver.

Montclair Prep vs. Paraclete
These small schools will have a surprising amount of talent on the field, with D-I prospects on each side.  Montclair Prep has Stephen Nembot, whom UCLA has offered, while Paraclete features defensive back Darian Thompson and outside linebacker Lavonte Barnett, who both boast D-I offers.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Stockton Lincoln and receiver Brandin Cooks face Tracy.  Los Alamitos and Ben Wysocki take on Fountain Valley. Rancho Bernardo and Aaron Wallace take on Mt. Carmel. Plano East and center Jacob Brendel take on Hebron. Arvada West and Marc Mustoe visit Ralston Valley.  Modesto Christian and tight end Raymond Nelson have a bye as do Rancho Bernardo and Aaron Wallace.

Other UCLA Offerees in Action
Cornerback Stefan McClure and Vista take on Escondido.  Fontana Summit and Devon Blackmon face Patriot.  Moreno Valley Rancho Verde and tight end Junior Pomee take on La Sierra.  Christian Heyward and Point Loma take on La Jolla.
