Friday Prospect Preview: Week Eight

A showdown in the Inland Empire and one in Central California head Week Eight's top games, with a slew of Pac-10 commits and UCLA targets involved...

Game of the Week: Norco vs. Corona Centennial
The two traditional powers of the Big VIII, who've won the league the last three years, meet in a game that features the Inland Empire's best quarterback (Michael Eubank, Centennial), running back (Kelsey Young, Norco) and offensive lineman (Brent Walker, Norco), and the league title could be on the line.  Centennial is unbeaten while Norco only has one loss, but a Norco win could keep them in line for a league title.

Chandler vs. Mountain View
Chandler hopes to have UCLA committed quarterback Brett Hundley back after missing last week with an ankle injury, in a game that Chandler lost.  How effective Hundley is, being the top dual-threat quarterback in the West, remains to be seen, but Chandler is glad to have him back.

Alemany vs. Loyola
Alemany has been unbeaten in their maiden voyage in the Serra League and hope to keep it going in this contest against Loyola, and offensive tackle Akeem Gonzales is a big part of Alemany's success, on both sides of the ball.  The Cubs will likely welcome Jerry Neuheisel, who's been out with concussive symptoms, which should take some of the pressure off running back Jared Baker, the Arizona commit in the backfield, who has carried the load in his absence.

Rancho Bernardo vs. San Diego Westview
Rancho Bernardo features UCLA commit Aaron Wallace on defense, while the Bruin staff is keeping a close watch on a couple of prospects for Westview, one being 6-7 tackle Taylor Reich, a senior, and the other being Taylor McNamara, the highly touted 2012 tight end who's boasting several verbal offers.

Bakersfield vs. Bakersfield Centennial
UCLA target Mercy Maston and his fellow secondary mates will be tested by California's top quarterback, USC commit Cody Kessler in a game with league title implications.

Lakewood vs. Long Beach Millikan
The Lancers face Millikan in a Moore League contest. Lakewood is paced by UCLA commit Torian White on the offensive line and recruit Todd Barr on defense, plus 2012 prospects Darius Powe and Malik Gilmore at receiver.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Stockton Lincoln and receiver Brandin Cooks face Lodi and Stanford commit Jordan Perkins.  Plano East and center Jacob Brendel take on Plano. Arvada West and Marc Mustoe play Boulder.  Modesto Christian and tight end Raymond Nelson take on Hughson.

Other UCLA Offerees in Action
Cornerback Stefan McClure and Vista take on Mission Hills.  Moreno Valley Rancho Verde and tight end Junior Pomee go against Ramona.  Christian Heyward and Point Loma take on Madison. Gardena Serra and UCLA offerees Jason Gibson, George Farmer and Marqise Lee take on Harvard-Westlake.  Encino Crespi and Devin Lucien and Jordan Simmons have a bye.

Thursday Night Action
Los Alamitos and UCLA commit Ben Wysocki beat Newport Harbor, 30-0.  Devon Blackmon and Fontana Summit beat Jurupa Valley, 63-0.
