Maston To Decide Saturday

Bakersfield (Calif.) cornerback Mercy Maston will announce his decision at end of the week, and the Bruins are in his final five...

Bakersfield (Calif.) defensive back Mercy Maston (5-11, 185) is five days away from making his college announcement known.

"I was going to do it this last weekend, but I'm going to do it this next Saturday instead, because all of my family is going to be in town for Thanksgiving," said Maston. "We're going to do it at a restaurant with all of my family there."

The three-star cornerback is hoping that he's in a good mood when he makes that decision.

"We had a bye this past week and we play Clovis East on Friday in the playoffs, and then I'll announce on Saturday," said Maston.

Maston said five schools remain in contention for his commitment.

"I'm choosing from Boise State, UCLA, Fresno State, Washington State and Arizona State," said Maston. "I'll let the coaches know this week before I announce."

Maston has said previously that UCLA was his leader, and where he was leaning, but he was non-committal this time.

"I don't really have a leader right now that I can say, I just will pick from those five," said Maston.

This year, Maston has been playing both ways and done quite a bit offensively, scoring eight touchdowns through the air.
