Prospect Review: Week 11

A big upset in the Pac-5 playoffs involves one of UCLA's targets, Crespi's Devin Lucien, in week one of the playoffs...

Game of the Week: Elk Grove Pleasant Grove def. Stockton Lincoln, 10-6
In a rain-soaked rematch of a regular season game won by Pleasant Grove, Lincoln and UCLA commit Brandin Cooks had their season come to an end in a 10-6 loss to Pleasant Grove.  Cooks had five catches for 78 yards but was kept out of the end zone.  A Pleasant Grove offense, led by the top West prospect in 2012, Arik Armstead, had a 169-yard rushing game and Armstead was stout defensively in the win.

Lakewood def. San Clemente, 24-7
The Tritons kept it close, but couldn't match the firepower of the Lancers, and Lakewood moved on to the quarterfinals.  Triton quarterback Travis Wilson, a 2012 prospect, was 13-for-30 for 174 yards and ran for 90 yards on 17 carries in the loss.  The Lancers, meanwhile, got 194 yards on 35 carries by Arizona State-bound Rashad Wadood, three catches for 92 yards by junior receiver Malik Gilmore and four tackles, two sacks and a touchdown reception from 2011 target Todd Barr.

Serra def. Beverly Hills, 48-7
The Cavs won their 26th straight game to open the CIF-SS playoffs, cruising past Beverly Hills.  Greg Townsend was Beverly Hills' lone bright spot, with a sack.  But the Cavs were too loaded for Beverly Hills, getting three touchdown runs from Shaq Richard, and touchdown passes from Conner Preston to George Farmer and Marqise Lee and move on in the playoffs.

Crespi def. Los Alamitos, 28-14
One of UCLA's main targets, receiver Devin Lucien, helped his team knock off one of UCLA's commits, Los Alamitos lineman Ben Wysocki, in a Pac-5 playoff surprise.  Lucien had six catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard pass-and-catch from Kenneth Stenhouse to help the Celts surprise the Griffins.  Wysocki helped running back Nick Richardson for 123 yards on 15 carries, but Los Al could only amass 254 yards in total offense.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Rancho Bernardo and Aaron Wallace topped Bonita Vista, 27-3.    Plano East and center Jacob Brendel have completed their season.  Modesto Christian and tight end Raymond Nelson have completed their season.  Arvada West and Marc Mustoe have completed their season.  Chandler and Brett Hundley have completed their season.
