Troy Thomas, Servite's head coach, faces his alma mater in what is easily the most intriguing matchup of the Pac-5 quarterfinals. Crespi shocked Los Alamitos in the first round, thanks to a big game by UCLA recruit Devin Lucien, who had two touchdown catches including a 97-yarder. But he'll face an undersized, but nevertheless stout Friars defense. In his first year at Crespi, longtime St. Bonaventure coach Jon Mack got things turned around quick and has his Celts thinking they can upset the defending state champions. Four-star offensive tackle Troy Niklas leads the way for the Friars.
Lakewood vs. Alemany
Lakewood's top prospects are UCLA commit Torian White and recruit Todd Barr, who are on the offensive and defensive lines, respectively and they also feature a pair of stud junior receivers in Malik Gilmore and Darius Powe. Running back/defensive back Rashad Wadood is an Arizona State commit coming off a near-200 yard game last week. Alemany's Akeem Gonzales, one of the Southland's top offensive lineman, will likely match up against Barr.
Serra vs. Camarillo
The Cavs feature three of California's best players in the state's top receiver (George Farmer), safety (Marqise Lee) and outside linebacker (Jason Gibson). They also have two very good players in their backfield, quarterback Conner Preston (SMU commit) and running back Shaq Richard. The Cavs should have an easy time against a defensively struggling Camarillo, who gave up 61 points to longtime and returning powerhouse and factory of outstanding players and people, Ventura, earlier this season.
Dorsey vs. Taft
The City Section quarterfinals feature a juicy rematch of an offensive explosion from earlier this season. A pair of Pac-10 commits at quarterback, Taft's Michael Bercovici (Arizona State) and Joseph Gray (Washington), will tangle in a contest featuring several other talented prospects, including two UCLA recruits, Michael Thomas (2011 receiver from Taft) and Jeremiah Allison (2012 outside linebacker/defensive end from Dorsey).
Narbonne vs. Crenshaw
Speaking of rematches, the City Section championship game from a year ago will be played again, this time in the quarters when Narbonne visits Crenshaw, in a game with Pac-10 recruits, in several classes, all over. The feature player is California's top prospect, DeAnthony Thomas, while a 2013 prospect to keep your eye on, Troy Williams, Narbonne's quarterback, will try to engineer an upset.
