JR Prospect Jerome Boyd

Most would agree that Los Alamitos (Calif.) defensive back Randy Estes is the top safety on the West Coast. This is a deep year at the position, however, and a player we feel could be right behind Estes is Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey's Jerome Boyd...

Jerome Boyd, 6-2, 200, Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey, is on just about every colleges' short list out West and is a national prospect in our eyes. He has very good size and has all the skills to excel at the next level.

"I think my ability to cover as a safety is probably my best asset but I can hit too," Boyd said. "I'll knock you out coming over the middle."

As a junior, Boyd earned All-League and All-Area honors after totaling 85 tackles, five interceptions and forced two fumbles. Many in the city believe Dorsey is the team to beat next season and Boyd is a big reason why.

On the recruiting front, Boyd has a short list of favorites and said he could commit early if the right school offers.

"Right now, I like Oregon, USC, UCLA and Florida State," Boyd said. "Locally, I favor USC a little more than UCLA just because I know the coaches better and they're winning right now but I like all four of those schools a lot and if I'm comfortable with the situation, I would definitely consider committing early and getting the recruiting process over with. UCLA is close to offering me and just needs to see my transcripts. I know Oregon and USC are very interested as well."

Boyd will attend the SoCal Nike Camp this weekend.
