Weekend Prospect Review: Week 12

The CIF playoffs have ended the season for some of UCLA's recruits and extended for others, and several of UCLA's targets were key contributors to wins...

Game of the Week: Servite def. Crespi, 40-16
The friars thought they'd face a stiff test against the Celts, but it ended up being a route, and put Servite in the CIF-SS Pac-5 semifinals, where they'll try to win it for the second straight year and move on to the state championship game again.  UCLA recruit Devin Lucien did score a 12-yard touchdown for the Celts, but it was a case of too little, way too late.

Alemany def. Lakewood, 42-21
In what may have been the most intriguing game of the weekend, the two teams were a combined 21-1, Alemany kept its perfect season alive in routing Lakewood.  Alemany bottled up Arizona State bound Rashad Wadood to just 18 yards on nine carries.  Junior prospect Darius Powe had a touchdown reception in the loss.

Taft def. Dorsey, 35-18
In a rematch from a game Dorsey won earlier in the year, the Toreadors got the one that mattered, in a matchup of two Pac-10 bound quarterbacks, Taft's Michael Bercovici (Arizona State) and Dorsey's Joseph Gray (Washington).  Mike Thomas was the story, though, for Taft.  The UCLA recruit had four catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns to give them a semifinal matchup with Carson.

Crenshaw def. Narbonne, 49-14
In a rematch of the CIF City Section title game from a year ago, Crenshaw continued to make easy work of the Gauchos. But instead of it being DeAnthony Thomas who did the work, it was a pair of 100-yard games from Quojan Floyd and Shaq Shelton that enabled the Cougars to win.  Thomas did chip in five tackles.

Vista def. Poway, 37-7
Vista continued its hot offensive play in a 30-point rout, showing no signs of rust after a first round bye.  Stefan McClure, one of UCLA's main targets on defense, was a big part of the offensive explosion, with six receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Summit def. Heritage, 29-22
UCLA recruit Devon Blackmon had a 53-yard touchdown pass and caught a pair of 2-point conversions, including one with 22 seconds left, that punctuated Summit's winning touchdown, after being down 22-21.

Point Loma def. Mt. Miguel, 34-10
UCLA recruit Christian Heyward had seven tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and a 27-yard touchdown reception in a quarterfinal win for the Pointers.
