Friday Prospect Preview: Week 13

The CIF Semifinals and Finals are in play this weekend throughout the state, including a big matchup in the SacJoaquin Section and a big clash in the City Section...

Game of the Week: Folsom vs. Sacramento Grant
The CIF-SacJoaquin Section D-II finals take place with a rematch of the season opener between Folsom and Grant, which the Pacers won 49-14.  Grant is unbeaten this season but Folsom has lost since then, and is arguably playing better football than Grant right now.  Folsom is bolstered by Dano Graves, an undersized quarterback who is as good a high school quarterback as there is, as well as an offense led by Stanford commit Jordan Richards.  Grant, meanwhile, is paced by five-star defensive tackle Viliami Moala, four-star safety James Sample and three-star defensive end Faigame Lopa, whom UCLA just offered.  The Pacers also feature the top skill position player in the West in the 2012 class, running back/safety Shaquille Thompson.  The winner here likely earns the NorCal D-II spot in the state championship.

Alemany vs. Servite
Four-star offensive tackle Troy Niklas leads the way for the Friars, the defending Pac-5 champs and D-II state champs, who are hoping to stay unbeaten and stay in line for a CIF Open Division berth.  Servite also features scrappy junior linebacker Butch Pauu.  Alemany is led by underrated quarterback Vernon Adams and three-star offensive tackle Akeem Gonzales.

Venice vs. Crenshaw
One of the top receivers in the 2012 class, Gabriel Marks from Venice, will be matched up against the top player in the 2011 class, DeAnthony Thomas from Crenshaw, in CIF City Section semifinal play.  The Cougars are the defending City champions and are looking for a repeat visit to the Coliseum while Venice hopes to stop Thomas and make a trip of their own.

St. Bonaventure vs. Westlake
These two teams met in a thriller last month, which allowed the Seraphs to tie for the Marmonte League title, when they won in overtime on a two-point conversion.  The Seraphs are led by Cal commit Jalen Jefferson and three-star defensive end Cody Kurz, while Westlake features three-star receiver Nelson Spruce and 2012 watch list members Justin Solis and Johnny Miller on the defensive line.
