Friday Preview: CIF Championships

Several CIF titles are up for grabs in games involving a slew of UCLA prospects, including two games televised by FSN West and FSN Prime Ticket on Friday and Saturday...

Game of the Week: Westlake vs. Oaks Christian (Friday at 7:30 p.m. on FSN West)
In a rematch of a game from earlier this year, which Westlake won, the two rivals collide in a game meaning much more than the Marmonte League title.  Oaks Christian, in their first year in the Marmonte, tied for the title with Westlake and St. Bonaventure.  Westlake beat St. Bonaventure last week, avenging their lone loss.  Oaks is looking to do the same.  Westlake is led by three-star receiver Nelson Spruce, quarterback Nick Isham and 2012 studs Cody Tuttle, Johnny Stuart and Justin Solis.  Oaks is paced by USC commit Jordan Payton and Duke commit Blair Holliday at receiver, Arizona State-bound Dillon van der Wal and 2012 prospect Ishmael Adams.

Mission Viejo vs. Anaheim Servite (Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on FSN Prime Ticket)
The CIF-SS Pac-5 title is on the line in this showdown between the defending D-II state champs and Pac-5 champs Servite, and traditional powerhouse Mission Viejo.  The winner of this game will land the CIF State Open Division berth. Servite hasn't lost since September of 2009, and look to repeat in the Pac-5 and return to Carson.  They boast four-star lineman Troy Niklas and 2012 linebacker Butch Pauu.  Mission is led by 2012 quarterback Alex Bridgford and USC commit Tre Madden at linebacker and Wildcat quarterback.

Carson vs. Crenshaw
The top-seeded Colts, will be matched up against the top player in the 2011 class, DeAnthony Thomas from Crenshaw, in CIF City Section championship play.  The Cougars are the defending City champions and are looking for a repeat in the Coliseum while Carson, featuring 2012 elite receiver prospect Darreus Rogers, are looking to win a title of their own.

Arroyo Grande vs. Serra
The Cavs are trying to repeat as CIF State Champions, but they'll have to beat Arroyo Grande to return to Carson.  The Cavs are arguably the most talented team in the Southland, led by five-star receiver George Farmer, four-star safety Marqise Lee and four-star linebacker Jason Gibson, and a solid quarterback in SMU commit Conner Preston.

Corona Centennial vs. Vista Murrieta
The Huskies win this one and they're in the CIF State D-I title game.  Vista Murrieta was poised for that spot last year, before being upset in the finals by Temecula Chaparral.  They're trying to turn the tables.  Vista Murrieta is quarterbacked by Utah commit Derrick Brown and two underclassmen that UCLA has offered in sophomore safety Sua Cravens and junior defensive lineman Jeremy Castro.  Centennial boasts rising-quarterback Michael Eubank, San Diego State commit Ryan Jack at linebacker, Oregon State commit Larry Scott at receiver and running back Barrinton Collins.

De La Salle vs. San Ramon California
If it's December, then it's time for De La Salle to play for another CIF-NCS title, and they're going for their 19th straight section title and their fifth straight trip to Carson for the state championships.  A win against California, who they trounced in the EBAL finale, will put them in line for the Open Division spot from up North, and would be their 24th straight win. De La Salle is led by elite 2012 quarterback Bart Houston.

Whittier Christian vs. Monrovia
Two of the better defensive lineman in the Southland will meet in the CIF-SS title game.  Whittier Christian is led by Boise State commit Jeff Worthy in the trenches while Monrovia features 2012 star Ellis McCarthy, who UCLA has offered.

Colton vs. Rancho Verde
Colton is looking for their first CIF title in nearly 30 years, but will have to beat an inspired and unbeaten Rancho Verde team, playing poised since losing their linebacker Emil Smith to a tragic accident this summer.  Colton's top prospect is linebacker Rodney Hardrick, whom UCLA is recruiting while Rancho Verde's top prospect is tight end Junior Pomee.
