Monrovia (Calif.) two-way lineman Ellis McCarthy figures to be one of the biggest recruits in the 2012 class, both figuratively and literally.

The 6-5, 311-pound McCarthy was one of the stars of the U.S. Army Underclass Combine this past weekend in San Antonio, and schools are already on him.

"UCLA was my first offer," said McCarthy. "Tennessee, Boise State and USC have all been by the school too."

McCarthy acknowledged that his two favorites are the two schools closes to home.

"My favorite schools are UCLA and USC," said McCarthy. "My favorite school growing up was UCLA. I'm not leaning towards any school right now. I want to go through the process and take some visit."

McCarthy plans to take in some camps and Junior Days in the months ahead.

"UCLA and USC both invited me to their Junior Days, and I'll figure out my camps later," said McCarthy.

The Scout 2012 watch lister, who helped Monrovia to the CIF-SS title this year, was also a guest at a handful of UCLA and USC games, though each game he went to, the home team lost.

"I went to USC-Notre Dame, UCLA-Stanford and USC-Oregon," said McCarthy.

McCarthy can play on either side of the ball, but his preference is on defense.

"I think most schools like me as a defensive tackle, and that's' where I can do my thing," said McCarthy. "I like sacking the quarterback and getting after them."

Academically, he's in fine shape, with a 3.0 and plans to take the SAT in March.
