Afflalo on Campus

Arron Afflalo, the #1 junior shooting guard in the west and a consensus top 30 national player, unofficially visited UCLA and new coach Ben Howland Tuesday...

Arron Afflalo, 6-4 JR SG, Compton (Calif.) Centennial, the #1 ranked junior shooting guard in the west, took an unofficial visit to UCLA yesterday.

We spoke with Afflalo at the Pangos Premier League last night and asked for his impressions. "It was very good," Afflalo said. "The campus is beautiful -- that is a very nice campus. Coach Howland seems like a good guy. He told me that he's actually been on the job for thirty six hours and he wanted to let me know that I'm right at the top of his recruiting list."

Afflalo said that Howland talked at length about his plans for UCLA. "He said that he's definitely going to make some of those guys stronger, better defenders, and that his goal isn't just to be one of the better teams in the west. He said UCLA will be among the elite programs in the country."

Afflalo went on to say, "He knows his stuff. After what he did at Pittsburgh, I'm pretty sure he'll get them stronger and more defensive oriented. And I think he will make them elite again."

Despite his apparent enthusiasm for UCLA, don't look for a decision any time soon from Afflalo. "I'm probably still going to wait through the spring and summer. But I'll definitely decide before the season starts next year."
