Update on Bumpus

He was the consensus best wide receiver prospect at the Los Angeles Nike Camp Sunday, and Michael Bumpus of Culver City talked to us after the camp about his recruitment, and about how it might come down to two schools for him...

Michael Bumpus, 5-11, 180, Culver City (Calif.) High, was the consensus best wide receiver at the Los Angeles Nike Camp on Sunday.

Bumpus stood out in the receiver and one-on-one drills, running the tightest routes, displaying great quicks and cuts and probably the best set of hands among the receivers at the camp.

Bumpus, though, arrived late and didn't run a 40 or a 20-yard shuttle.

When asked if much had changed in his opinion of the schools recruiting him, he said there hadn't been much.

‘It's still basically the same," Bumpus said. "My favorites are UCLA, USC, Texas, Florida and Oregon, as well as Florida State and Miami."

As of now UCLA, USC, Oregon and Florida have contacted him, but he has yet to receive an official offer.

"UCLA has hinted around at offering, but haven't really officially offered yet," Bumpus said.

When asked what he's looking for in a school, Bumpus said: "Football wise, an offense I feel I can contribute to. And academic wise, I want to major in something in business. Unfortunately, UCLA doesn't have a business program. That's why I'm looking at USC. It's really up in the air between those two right now, because they both have something to offer. UCLA still has an edge, but it's those two. I would like to stay close to home, but if Miami or Florida State came around, that would be different."

While it seems that USC has made up some ground in his recruitment, Bumpus talked about a potential offer from UCLA and if he'd commit. "I would wait, but later on, if the offer is still there from UCLA, I'd probably commit. Probably sometime during my season."

Bumpus said he has a 2.5 GPA and has been taking a SAT study course and plans on taking the test for the first time in May.
