Randy Shannon, the former head coach and defensive coordinator of the Miami Hurricanes, looks to be UCLA's next defensive coordinator.

A source who is close to one of UCLA's recruits told us that a UCLA coach called the recruit last night and told him that the deal is done for Shannon, and just the contract needed to be signed.

Other recruits have also indicated they heard the same.

It was known that Shannon was on campus Sunday to meet with UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel.

Shannon was recently let go after four seasons as Miami's head coach, where he compiled a record of 28-22. He had consistently improved Miami's seasonal record from 2007 (5-7) to 2009 (9-4), but then posted a 7-5 in 2010.

Shannon was the defensive coordinator at Miami for six seasons before he was named head coach in 2007. During those six seasons Miami's defense was one of the best in the country, ranking nationally at 6th, 7th, 2nd, 28th, 4th and 7th, respectively, over those six seasons.

When he was head coach at Miami, the Hurricanes' defense ranked consistently among the top 30 in the nation.
