Malele Has 2 Early Faves

The big lineman from Carson, Norris Malele, says he's very wide open, but does have an early list of schools, and two schools in particular he said that are the very early leaders...

Norris Malele, 6-3, 294. Carson (Calif.) High, was considered one of the best linemen in the Los Angeles area and he proved it at the Los Angeles Nike Camp this past Sunday.

He's all of 6-3, and looks even thinnish for 294 pounds. He ran a 5.0 flat 40, which is very good for a 300-pounder, and put up 24 reps on the bench. He also looked very good in the one-on-one drills.

Malele said he's still wide open when it comes to schools, and is willing to consider anyone. He did say, though, that if had to pick any favorites, that'd they be UCLA and USC as of right now. "They're the two schools I've been hearing from the most. They're close to home."

Malele said he's also hearing from the entire Pac-10, Notre Dame, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida and Michigan. He's been offered, he said by UCLA, USC, Cal and Washington.

So, is the location – being close to home -- that important to him? "Close to home would be good, but if I feel comfortable somewhere else, I'd have to make the move. You have to get out someday."

His cousin, Matt, committed to Cal, and it's been speculated that it could influence Norris. "It's there, I can't deny it. But no one is going to force me to go where I don't want to go. And right now I'm wide open. I'll support Matt at Cal, and I'm sure he'll support me wherever I go."

Malele said he has a 2.7 GPA and scored a 970 on the SAT he took last October.

Editor's note: After the Nike Camp when recruits were mingling, overheard was Malele calling out to find UCLA commit Kevin Brown, saying he wanted to talk to him about UCLA...
