Fanaika said while he likes the national interest, for now he's leaning towards staying out West, with a couple of schools on his leaderboard from there.
"I'm more looking for the education and I think a big part of that comes into play with Stanford, they offer the best D-I education, and then I really like the coaches at Utah," said Fanaika. "Them going into the Pac-12 is good, there will be more competition."
His former Pleasant Grove teammate, Dallas Lloyd, signed with Stanford before leaving for an LDS mission. Fanaika is also going to need to make a decision on when he'll serve his mission.
"Right now, I'm leaning towards going on my mission right out of high school," said Fanaika.
Fanaika said his preference is to play on the offensive side of the ball.
"I'm leaning more towards offense, but if they need me at defense, that's fine," said Fanaika. "It's just that I've been playing offense longer and have more opportunity there. But defense is fine too. I play tackle for Pleasant Grove but I think I'll play guard in college."
Fanaika is an excellent student too, carrying a 3.8 cumulative GPA with plans to take the SAT and ACT this spring.
