Bruins In the Mix for Elite TE

Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney tight end Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick is one of the West's best tight ends and UCLA is on his early short list...

Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney tight end Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick is sitting on five offers but the four-star said he thinks more will be joining those soon.

"My offers right now are from Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, Washington State and Cal," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "USC hasn't offer yet, but I've been talking to them a lot. And my coach said Michigan wants to talk with me soon."

In addition, Cope-Fitzpatrick said Notre Dame and Miami have taken an interest in him.

Cope-Fitzpatrick said that the in-state schools have been showing him the most attention.

"Right now Cal has been showing me a lot of interest," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "And the L.A. schools, UCLA and USC too. I like them all a lot right now. I really haven't been to too many campuses, so I'm going to check them all out a little more."

Cope-Fitzpatrick camped at the Los Angeles Nike Camp last year, the Badger/ 7on7 and at UCLA and plans to do the same plus USC's Rising Stars this year.

"I'd like to do the Nike Camp in L.A. because a lot of my friends are down there and I did well there a year ago," said Cope-Fitzpatrick.

He also is anxious to return to Vegas for the Badger/New Level 7on7. It was there, a year ago, that Cope-Fitzpatrick jumped on to the map, helping B2G win the tournament.

"Team B2G, we're loading up and we're looking to repeat from last year," said Cope-Fitzpatrick.

And that's where Cope-Fitzpatrick first showed, on a big scale, that he could move extremely well for his size.

"I'm 6-5, 240 right now, and I slimmed down quite a bit last summer," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I was around 265 last year at this time and then I played the season at 235. I'm trying to get a little bigger, right around 250, but keeping the speed."

While he's an elite tight end, he'd like to stay there.

"I like to play tight end, but I'm always open to defense and trying it out," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I just want to play which position I'm best at. Cal said they like me at both positions and Coach (Jeff) Tedford is really pushing me to play that. All of the schools said I'm an offensive player and a tight end. Not the offensive line."

Cope-Fitzpatrick is planning to take some time, but not a lot of time, in the process.

"I'd like to make it before the season, but depending on what I like, and what I know, and what I've seen so far, and how the choices are looking, I might do it after I take my officials," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I know I want to do it before Signing Day."

Academically, Cope-Fitzpatrick said he's got a 2.8 and will take the SAT in March and May and the ACT in June.
