Marks Is Hoping for More Options

Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice receiver Gabriel Marks has one offer but he's hoping that a strong spring will prompt more to come...

One of the Southland's top receivers in the 2012 class is Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice's Gabriel Marks (6-0, 175).

The Scout 2012 Watch Lister took in the Meet & Greet at UCLA and Junior Day at USC the past two weekends.

"UCLA was really, really nice," said Marks. "They didn't have a lot of people there so they gave us a nice tour. We got to eat there and they showed us the facilities. I talked with the new receivers coach, Coach (Mike) Johnson, and they said they like me a lot and want to see me at their camp."

The following weekend, Marks went to USC.

"There were a lot more people there and I got to meet some new coaches and then we had a specific meeting with the coaches and checked out the weight room," said Marks.

A receiver by trade, Marks earned all-state honors on defense, but said the recruiting attention is coming for offense.

"At this point, wherever they want me to play, I'll play whatever they need me to," said Marks. "But I feel like I'm a receiver first."

Marks' first offer came from SMU and he's also hearing from Oregon State, Cal, Oregon and Michigan.

"SMU is really interesting and I want to take a trip there and see what's up with their program," said Marks. "Coach (Adrian) Klemm is recruiting me and he's a really good recruiter."

Marks said he's very much interested in the two local schools.

"Growing up, I liked UCLA and USC a lot so those would be great schools," said Marks. "I'll probably be going to both of their camps and my team will be going back to the UCLA 7on7 tournament."

But Marks is in no rush to make a decision.

"I don't really know when I'll decide but I think I want to take my trips," said Marks.

Marks will be returning to Las Vegas next weekend for the Badger 7on7, which he helped Team B2G win a year ago, en route to all-camp honors. He was also the Los Angeles Nike Camp WR MVP a year ago.

"We're looking to defend our title in Vegas," said Marks. "And I'm looking forward to the Nike Camp this year. Last year, I wasn't expecting to win MVP, but this year, I'm going in focused."
