PA Running Back Looks West

UCLA is trying its best to make the city of Pittsburgh a second home. The Bruins have already stolen Pitt basketball coach Ben Howland, lead for Pittsburg-area All-American quarterback Anthony Morelli and are doing very well with big-time running back Andrew Johnson...

Andrew Johnson, 6-0, 205, Pittsburgh (Penn.) North Hills, has been on our radar since his sophomore season when he rushed for 1,690 yards and 25 touchdowns to earn All-State honors. He then came out to the Nike Camp at Penn State last summer and was one of the top players in attendance running a 4.41 in the 40, 4.17 in the shuttle and dominating the position drills.

We expected a huge junior year for Johnson but he was only able to play in four games due to transfer rules. The running back left Central Catholic for North Hills at the end of his sophomore year. In the four game he did play, he rushed 780 yards and eight touchdowns and has since been hearing from schools all over the country.

"I have offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Iowa, Wisconsin and Virginia Tech," Johnson said. "UCLA is my top school followed by Pitt, Miami, Michigan and Virginia Tech. I'm looking for a school with nice weather because I want to run track in college as well as a school with a strong football program."

Johnson has a personal best 10.47 time in the 100m and he's carrying a 2.3 GPA. He'll attend the Nike Camp at Penn State later this month.
