Wide receiver Justin Shaw, 6-2, 195, Palmdale (
"UCLA," he said. "They are my first choice and where I want to go."
Being a heavy UCLA lean left him room for only one other school he is considering. "ASU is also recruiting me," Shaw said, "But UCLA is my number one."
However, Shaw is still waiting on an offer from UCLA, though he expects one to come soon, thanks to a pretty decent Nike Camp a few weeks back. Though he struggled with a groin injury during some testing, he had a good showing, jumping 35 inches in the vertical and was generally considered among the top three wide receiver prospects at the camp. Shaw was pleased with his performance there. "I think I did pretty good. I couldn't go all out like I wanted to, but I don't want to do any more damage to it. I want to make sure it is healed all the way."
When asked about what stood out about UCLA, he had a variety of answers. "I grew up watching UCLA. Since I was young that's who I saw and liked. It's close, has good academics and I really like Coach B (Bieniemy). I think it is the right opportunity for me and I really like Coach Dorrell."
Even though UCLA still stands out, he said he will wait to make his decision, but in the end he expects to commit if offered. "Its where I want to be."
Shaw is planning to attend the UCLA One Day Camp in June. He has a 2.9 GPA and will take the SAT this spring for the first time.
