UCLA, Others Get Involved With Artis

After a great spring, the 5-11 point guard from Richmond (Calif.) Salesian, Dominic Artis, has had some big programs contact him, and he talked specifically about his interest in UCLA...

Dominic Artis, 5-11 SR PG Richmond (Calif.) Salesian, has had a terrific spring and he will enter July as the top rated point guard in the west. A quick and skilled prospect, Artis has grown a few inches in the last year and that's made a big difference in his game, as well as his potential at the next level.

Multiple new schools have expressed interest in Artis after his performances over the past couple months.

"UCLA, Florida State, Texas, Penn and Memphis have all been calling now," said Artis. "I'm supposed to go to Florida State on Saturday for their team camp. UCLA said they are going to increase their involvement in recruiting me and they would be watching me at the LeBron camp and Peach Jam."

Asked for his thoughts on the Bruins, Artis said, "I like UCLA. I like the California weather and I'm a California kid, so I think that would be a good fit."

Artis said he doesn't anticipate taking any more unofficial visits, preferring to wait until he can take official visits.

"I'll probably just take official visits," said Artis. "I know I want to visit Cal. I'll probably also visit Washington State and Oregon as well. But I have to wait and see which schools are really interested in me."

Artis said he is starting to formulate a plan for his recruitment.

"I think I'd like to get it down to a list of seven schools going into the LeBron camp," said Artis. "Then after the Peach Jam and Fab 48 maybe cut it down to three schools, assuming no new schools have got involved."

I asked Artis when he'd like to make his decision.

"I know I want to decide after the summer," said Artis. "I want to sit down with my parents and we will see what we really have on the table."
